The Langley Events Centre and Township of Langley get ready to ‘hurry hard’ in 2012
The Canadian Curling Association (CCA) and the World Curling Federation (WCF) announced today that the 2012 World Financial Group Continental Cup, presented by Monsanto, has been awarded to the Township of Langley, British Columbia.
The Continental Cup is a unique international curling competition featuring teams from North America versus The World. Starting January 12 to 15, 2012 the Langley Events Centre will be hosting curling fans from across the globe. The 260,483 square foot state of the art facility which includes an Arena Bowl, Gymnasiums, Banquet Hall and Meeting Spaces all in one, is currently home to the Trinity Western University Spartans, Langley Chiefs and Langley Thunder teams as well as the Langley Gymnastics Foundation, Willoughby Community Centre, Tourism Langley and Rich Coleman, MLA. The host community, the Township of Langley, with a population of 103, 267 located in beautiful agriculture rich Fraser Valley is a part of the Greater Vancouver Regional District, host of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
“On the heels of the 2010 Olympics and curling success we are extremely delighted to bring one of our developing and growing events to the Township of Langley,” CCA Director of Event Operations Warren Hansen shared. “This world class event features the best twelve teams from across the globe and is a great attraction for fans across the lower mainland.”
“This event is a perfect fit for the Township,” Mayor Rick Green stated at the media conference held this afternoon. “The World Financial Group Continental Cup is exactly the type and calibre of event that we are delighted to host here at the Langley Events Centre. Curling fans and sports fans in general will be thrilled to see international competition up close in their own backyard.”
2012 will mark the eighth edition of the ‘Cup’, which began in 2002 in Regina.
“I am excited to welcome the best curlers in the world to the Langley Events Centre,” said Rich Coleman, MLA for Fort Langley-Aldergrove. “Earlier this year, curling forged a whole new generation of local fans thanks to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. We will have to ‘hurry hard’ to get tickets to this huge event.”
