That's gonna sting - Three local politicians are giving up some hair in exchange for donations.

Langley Advance

Langley politics will be a little less 'hairy' this summer, as the Langley Member of Parliament and both Langley mayors have offered up their legs to be waxed in support of the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

City Mayor Peter Fassbender, Township Mayor Rick Green and MP Mark Warawa will be waxing their legs at the May Day Celebrations in Fort Langley on May 18.

"The Relay for Life is thrilled to have the support of these three community leaders," said Relay for Life Chair Howie Vickberg. "It shows their valued commitment to the battle against cancer, and their true community spirit."

Each politician's goal is to raise $10,000 from the community for the endeavour in the next month.

"Now it is up to the community to show its support of our mayors and our MP, by making a donation," said Vickberg. "I know the people of Langley will put their money where their mouths are to see these politicians endure a little pain for such an important reason."

"It's a great opportunity to do something positive for the Relay for Life," said Warawa, who has been a Relay supporter since it began. "It's a friendly contest, and I'm looking forward to see who can raise the most money to support the Relay. I'm willing to let someone 'tear a strip off me' for a good cause," Warawa joked.

As a special incentive, Fassbender has offered to shave off the moustache he has had for 28 years if a single person or group donates $1,000 or more.

"As a cancer survivor myself, I want to support the Relay for Life in any way I can," said Fassbender. "Having my legs waxed and even being willing to sacrifice my 28-year-old mustache, for a significant donation, is a small step I'm willing to make for this great cause!"

"Most families have been affected by cancer and my family is no different," Green said. "It's an honour and a privilege to offer up my legs for the Relay for Life. And I think my legs are the longest of the three, so I'm willing to sacrifice that much more!"

The Mi Casa Spa offered to do the waxing. There are several locations where donations can be made for each waxee:
- Van City in Walnut Grove
- Van City in Willoughby
- Any Aldergrove Credit Union location
- Otter Co-op
- Mi Casa Spa in Fort Langley
- Township of Langley mayor's office
- City of Langley mayor's office
