The future of Canada Post: share your thoughts
The Conference Board of Canada recently released a report on the future of
Canada Post. The report projected that the Crown corporation may lose close to $1 billion a year by 2020 as a result of the relentless decline in the volume of letters.
The report examines five options for cutting Canada Post’s costs: wage restraints; alternate day delivery for mail (but not parcels); converting Canadian households’ door-to-door delivery to community mailboxes; further replacement of corporate post offices with franchised postal outlets, and reduced speed of delivery. In addition the report examines price increases. No decisions have been made, but Canada Post must seriously consider its options.
Canada Post is asking all Canadians to offer their views either through their website at

Canada Post has assured the Government of Canada that it will continue to meet its public policy obligations to serve every Canadian address, including those in rural and northern Canada.
