In 1996, 20 million Canadians (84.6% of the population aged 15 years and over) took part in one or more nature-related activities in Canada.
Most Canadians enjoy a walk in the park or a cycle through a forest for recreational use. However nature conservation is important for a variety of other reasons including: scientific research; a place for education; and an attractive surrounding environment in which to live and work. We have a responsibility to protect nature for our current enjoyment and that of future generations.
