People can receive a gift this Saturday that will help them be greener.
For Canadian Environment Week, World Environment Day, and United Nations International Year of the Forests, Langley MP Mark Warawa and the Langley Environmental Partners Society are giving away three species of native plants.
The plants go fast and the giveaway starts at 10 a.m. on June 4 at the Langley Home Depot.
Being given out are 230 Pacific rhododendron, 160 mock orange and 160 red twig dogwood.
“Native plants are indigenous to our area, provide a food source for people and great habitat for birds and other wildlife, produce oxygen and keep our air clean,” explained Nichole Marples, the executive director for LEPS.
Canadian Environment Week June 5-11. More information about the week is available through the federal government website at www.ec.gc.ca.
LEPS is one of the community groups in contention for $25,000 grants from the Keg. The restaurant is celebrating its 40th anniversary by giving away $1 million in grants to help communities. People can help LEPS win a grant by going to http://www.thekegthanksamillion.com/en/phase2/projects/show/p/538 to vote.
