MP's office smoothed adoption
Editor: We can’t believe that our five-year-old son Wilde has officially been in our family for one entire month already. And we don’t want to let any more time pass before we publicly thank our MP Mark Warawa and the compassionate staff at his office who worked so diligently to ensure that Wilde was one of the more than 150 adopted Haitian children who were evacuated from Haiti after the devastation of January 12.

Though we had been working on Wilde’s adoption for three years and things were nearly complete, the complexities of bringing children like him home amidst the rubble and chaos of the earthquake proved daunting. And although there were many ups and downs, our government came through, ensuring that Wilde and many other adopted Haitian children were not left to languish in orphanages because of red tape.

There’s been no shortage of national pride circulating around our corner of the world this past month, but despite the glamour of Olympic gold, we can truly say that we have never been more proud to be Canadian than the day Wilde was carried across that snowy Ottawa runway and into our arms.

Thank you so much.
