LANGLEY, BC – Mark Warawa, MP for Langley today announced the Government of Canada’s support to communities hosting celebrations during the Olympic Torch Relay’s journey across our country. The Government of Canada is providing Langley with $15,000 for the local celebration.
“When the Torch comes through our town, the Olympic spirit will touch each and every one of us. I’m getting excited already to cheer on the Torch as it comes through Langley and to root on Team Canada at the Olympics in February,” said Warawa, clad in his Team Canada jersey.
The Torch will come through Langley in the morning of February 8, 2010. There will be a community celebration at the Langley Events Centre at 11am. “Everyone in town is proud that the Olympic Torch will visit our community and this federal support will ensure that it will be a memorable day for everyone,” Warawa said.
"We are excited to welcome the Olympic Torch Relay on its stretch run into Vancouver," said Jordan Bateman, Township Councillor and chair of the Langley Torch Relay Task Force. "February 8, 2010, is going to be a historic
moment for the Township of Langley, and will showcase our community and cultural exploits to the world."

Across the country, each local celebration will be different, offering unique opportunities for all Canadians to welcome the Olympic Flame. The events and activities organized by each celebration community will highlight Canadian pride in our athletes, culture and country.
“The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay will be the longest domestic relay in Olympic history,” said the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport). “The Olympic Flame will be carried by 12,000 torchbearers through more than 1,000 communities across our country.
