Mark Warawa announces $6 million for langley infrastructure projects
“These are very important dollars for the Township of Langley providing much needed infrastructure dollars for our growing community, as well as ensuring that environmental protection measures are also enhanced," says Warawa. These projects will also provide dozens of jobs during this recovery period from the global recession. This is continued evidence that our Government is committed to healthier communities and a vibrant economy.”
The township will benefit from:
- $3,335,351 to reconstruct 96th Avenue at Telegraph Trail/198th Street for improved safety for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. The two offset T-intersections will be realigned to create one full turn intersection with left turn lanes, bicycle lanes, sidewalks and a raised median.
- $2,212,760 to increase the height of a 960-metre section of the West Langley Dike between 201 Street and 102B Avenue by raising the dike more than one metre and widening it to four metres. These improvements will greatly reduce the flood risk for 26 residential/farm properties in the area and protect numerous commercial and industrial properties in the area.
- $1,080,000 in Capital Project funding for asphalt resurfacing of seven lane-kilometres along Highway 10, east of Langley, from Springbrook Road to 72nd Ave. This project will extend the road’s life by 15 years, avoiding total roadway reconstruction at four times the costs.
In 2009, the Government of Canada introduced the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund as part of its Economic Action Plan to get shovels in the ground and projects completed by March 31, 2011. “The fund’s success is a result of partnerships developed between the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government, who are working together to fund projects and get the work underway,” says Warawa. This announcement represents a total of 90 projects under ISF valued at $343 million. The Government of Canada is contributing $127 million.
