Langley MP Mark Warawa Re-instated as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of the Environment.
Langley - MP Mark Warawa is pleased to have been re-affirmed by Prime Minister Stephen Harper as the Parliamentary Secretary to Environment Minister John Baird during a shuffle of P.S. positions announced today.

“It is truly an honour to be able to continue working on environmental issues alongside Minister Baird,” says Warawa. “I am thrilled to work within a government that is truly committed to taking action to clean up the environment. It is tragic that years of Liberal neglect have left Canada with a damaged environment. We can’t turn back the hands of time, but we can act, and that is exactly what this Prime Minister and Minister
Baird are doing.”

We understand that Canadians are concerned about their changing environment and the quality of the air they breathe. “Harmful air emissions in the air continue to affect our health, our environment, our economy and our quality of life. The correlation between the health of Canadians and the quality of the environment is strong,” says Warawa. “Low birth weight babies, cancer, disease and death can be linked to environmental
hazards and I am committed to seeing those numbers drop significantly.”

Warawa says that while there is still a lot of work left to do at the Ministry, much has been accomplished during his tenure as Parliamentary Secretary. “We are the first government in Canadian history to tackle both greenhouse gas emissions and pollution levels at the same time. We are also the first government to move from voluntary to mandatory requirements for all sectors of industry to reduce their environmental impacts.”

“We are leading the way by regulating the auto sector for the first time ever. We have proposed new tougher standards on air pollutants so that everyone can breathe better. Our Chemical Management Plan tackles hazardous pollutants from consumer products such as paint, ink, and spray cans. We are monitoring polluters and fining those who do not meet their targets.”

“We believe that everyone's priority should be to work to improve the health of Canadians and our environment. I look forward to continuing to help provide real results.”
