Hwy 10 upgrading
The federal and provincial governments handed over another $1.25 million in infrastructure funding in Langley on Tuesday, to resurface parts of Highway 10.
The cash is part of the ongoing job-creation efforts by Ottawa and Victoria.
The project will see Highway 10 resurfaced along its Glover Road section from the Langley Bypass to 64th Avenue, and along the eastern portion of Springbrook Road, up 232nd Street to the TransCanada Highway interchange.
About 2.7 kilometres of the highway will be resurfaced, possibly including portions of the on- and offramps to the TransCanada.
The work is expected to begin in the summer of 2010.
"This is all stimulus dollars, so it has to be done pretty quickly," said Langley MP Mark Warawa.
Warawa, along with Fort Langley-Aldergrove MLA Rich Coleman and Langley Township Councillor Mel Kositsky, were on hand for the official announcement.
The announcement is the latest in a string of projects in Langley to be funded either by the federal and provincial governments, or by those governments in partnership with the Township or City of Langley.
The replacement of the bridge over the Nicomekl River at Fraser Highway, dike improvements, and road upgrades in North Langley are also scheduled to begin within the next year.
The money being poured into infrastructure is a government effort to lessen the impact of the ongoing recession and economic crisis.
