Governments of Canada, British Columbia, and Township of Langley Create Jobs, Build Communities

LANGLEY--Residents of Langley will benefit from joint federal and provincial funding to construct a thermal recovery pump system at the Aldergrove Water Treatment Plant, announced today by Langley MP, Mark Warawa and Fort Langley-Aldergrove MLA Rich Coleman.  This project is just one example of each government’s commitment to strengthening the economy in British Columbia by reducing red tape, creating jobs for British Columbians, and getting shovels in the ground sooner.

This project will construct a thermal recovery pump system for the Aldergrove Water Treatment Plant, a move that will take heat from the groundwater that is processed through the plant, reducing the reliance on natural gas at the plant.

“The Conservative government recognizes the importance of having modern, world-class infrastructure, and announced close to $12 billion in new infrastructure funding in Budget 2009,” said Mark Warawa, MP for Langley. “I am especially pleased, as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of the Environment, that Langley is taking a leadership role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, a move my government outlined in our Environmental Action Plan.”

"We are working jointly with our federal and municipal partners to make important improvements to our infrastructure," says Fort Langley-Aldergrove MLA Rich Coleman. "This will provide more sustainable and better treatment of our water and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

“Grants that help improve infrastructure in our community are always appreciated, especially when the environment will benefit as well,” said the township of Langley Mayor Rick Green.  “We are grateful for the financial contributions that the federal and provincial governments are making to this project,” added Green.  “Special thanks are due to our MP Mark Warawa and MLA Rich Coleman for helping the Township of Langley obtain this valuable grant.”

This project is one of 41 projects across the province that will break ground quickly thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment of $110 million. Together with municipal contributions, the total investment in local infrastructure improvements in British Columbia during this first intake exceeds $175 million.  The governments of Canada and British Columbia have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and to flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects in British Columbia communities in the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons.
