MIDNIGHT VOTE TO SAVE THE CANADIAN ECONOMY KEEPS WARAWA IN OTTAWA
June 16, 2009
Langley MP Mark Warawa will be staying in Parliament until midnight on Friday to vote, cancelling his entry in the Langley City Community Day Parade. "I'll be working late into the night Friday and unfortunately I won't make it back to Langley in time to celebrate the parade on Saturday morning," says Warawa, who was looking forward to the annual event. "I always look forward to the Community Day Parade, but this year I had to stay late in Ottawa to fight to protect our economy." "Friday night's vote is to approve the Supplementary Estimates, which include important measures linked to billions of dollars for our Economic Action Plan. We have over 3,000 infrastructure projects arranged and ready to go...all that is needed is for Parliament to vote for the money to flow to Canadian communities," says the Langley MP. "A yes vote is a vote to boost our economy. It's also a confidence vote. It is utter lunacy for the Liberals to threaten an election at the start of this years` construction season. These billions of economic stimulus dollars need to start flowing now.” "The Liberals are threatening an election when in reality, such a tactic will stop the $1.6 billion stimulus package from flowing in Canada; it will stop people from getting to work, it will hurt the economy, and it will stop increased EI benefits getting to Canadians who are in desperate need of it." "The Liberals are trying to cause an election without being blamed for it," says Warawa, "but the blame will fall squarely on their shoulders. This is the time for everyone to work together... stop playing politics and do what needs to be done to help the Canadian economy." "I have heard from my constituents, that there is no appetite for a federal election and Langley voters want me to work on the economy, and that's what I'm doing." Warawa will be taking the first flight out of Ottawa on Saturday morning, in order to appear at the Douglas Park celebrations as well as to host the Langley Environmental Hero Award Ceremony at Fort Langley. |
