Parliamentary History October 14, 2008 – Mark Warawa is elected for his third term as Member of Parliament for Langley. He retained his position as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of the Envioronment. January 23, 2006 – Mark Warawa is re-elected to the House of Commons to represent Langley, BC. He is named the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of the Environment. During this Parliament, Mark provided leadership to the Environment Committee with Canadian Environmental Protection Act review in 2006. He also has worked with opposition parties on Bill C-474, CEPA – making it a better piece of legislation for all Canadians, and garnering all party support for the bill in the House of Commons. June 28, 2004: Mark Warawa is elected to the House of Commons to represent the new electoral district of Langley, British Columbia and is subsequently appointed to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice. During this Parliament, Mark introduced Bill C-293 An Act to amend the Criminal Code (theft of a motor vehicle). The purpose of this Bill is to provide direction to the courts regarding sentencing for the offence of theft of a motor vehicle. Bill C-293 amends the Criminal Code to provide for minimum sentencing with fines and/or imprisonment for every person who is convicted of theft of a motor vehicle a first, second or subsequent time. Mark also introduced Bill C-355 An Act to Amend the Motor Vehicle Safety Act (vehicle immobilizers). Bill C-355 amends the Motor Vehicle Safety Act to include the definition of vehicle immobilizers as motor vehicle equipment. It defines vehicle immobilizers as the Canadian standard (CAN/ULC-S338-98). Only the Canadian standard will provide the protection that Canadians assume they have purchased. Career History 2000-2004: Mark Warawa worked in ICBC’s Langley branch as the Road Safety/Loss Prevention Co-ordinator. Mark was responsible for ensuring all aspects of road safety initiatives in Langley. He was also responsible for auto crime prevention programs. Mark has more than 13 years’ experience in public service as a Municipal Councillor and Regional District Director. Mark also has 30 years’ experience as a successful business owner. He understands the needs of the business community. They have lived in both Langley City and Township, and currently reside in Brookswood. They have five children and eight grandchildren.
