MP Mark Warawa Calls for Langley Environmental Heroes

World Environment Week is June 1 – 7th, 2008 NOMINATE A LANGLEY ENVIRONMENTAL HERO! Conservative MP Mark Warawa has initiated a call for the third annual Environmental Hero contest in recognition of Environment Week which is June 1st to 7th. “If you know of a person, group or a business who has taken the initiative to do something positive for the environment, we’d like to hear about it,” says Warawa who is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of the Evironment. “Please email my office at warawm@parl.gc.ca and briefly describe the activities of a person, group or business that has made a positive contribution to our environment, and tell us why you believe they are environmental heroes in Langley.” Please access the MP website at www.markwarawa.com for more information. “Big or small, when it comes to the environment, every little bit helps. From picking up litter with your children to major companies taking an environmentally proactive stance, we’d like to hear your story,” says Warawa. Warawa came up with the idea for the contest in 2006 after recognizing that there are many different ways in which people, groups and business are taking a lead in environmental conservation, protection and enhancement. “Many of these initiatives go unnoticed and unrecognized,” says Warawa. “The environment is our most valuable resources and anyone who is taking a leading role in protecting it is a hero in my opinion.” The Langley Environmental Hero Award is co-sponsored by the Langley Times. During Environment week, Warawa is taking part in several environmental initiatives, including sponsoring a tree-planting drive with Langley Environmental Partners Society on Saturday, June 7th from 10am-Noon at the Home Depot and from Noon-2pm at the Murrayville Demonstration Garden. “During World Environment Week, let us examine the state of our environment. Let us consider carefully the actions which each of us must take, and then address ourselves to our common task of preserving all life on Earth.” All submissions will go into a random draw for prizes. Submissions must be received by June 1st. |
