MP Mark Warawa Lauds Environmental Protection In Speech From The Throne
October 17, 2007
Langley - MP Mark Warawa, who is also the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of the Evironment, says the Speech from the Throne reflects the values of Canadians, and is very pleased with the commitment from government on environmental issues. “Once again, the Prime Minister has delivered an agenda that is based on five clear priorities, making our goals realistic and achieveable,” says Warawa. “On the environment, the Throne Speech vowed to improve the environment and health of Canadians by continuing to deliver realistic and achievable results in areas such as environmental enforcement and product and food safety. “I was particularly happy that the Prime Minister got out the message, that we are committed to the health of our planet. Our targets are the most aggressive in the world, with a global standard of GHG emission reduction of 20% by 2020, and 50% by 2050; our goal is a 60-70% reduction by 2050,” says Warawa. “These are some of the toughest targets in the world, and I’m proud our government is committed and is taking action to clean up the environment.” “We have been vindicated by former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien who has laid the blame of Kyoto at Paul Martin’s feet by saying he dropped the ball – Stephane Dion was Martin’s Environment Minister. His own mentor said it was Dion’s fault, and the result was has been absolutely tragic,” says Warawa. Twenty months ago, Canadians elected a Conservative Government that would set clear goals and deliver concrete results; a government that would be accountable, a government that would put Canadians and their families first and a government that would make life better. “Our Government has worked hard to deliver on these expectations,” says the Langley MP. “And Canadians now have more money in their pockets because taxes have been cut. Families now have real choice in childcare through the Universal Child Care Benefit. Canadians now have a Government committed to helping them get the medical care they need more quickly. We have a Government that is tackling crime and making neighbourhoods safer.” “The results are clear: Canada’s economy is strong, the Government is clean and the country is united. Our Government continues to focus on what Canadians want.” |
